As a young member of the ballet corps, Christine catches the Phantom's attention and, playing on a childhood promise of her father, he introduces himself to her as the Angel of Music, training her voice and orchestrating her rise to stardom in his new opera, “Don Juan Triumphant.” With all the splendor and gilt of a grand opera as well as the dark and labyrinth-like underbelly of Paris, Christine becomes a pivot between the tortured world of the Phantom and the warm world of her childhood friend and now lover Raoul. It is 1881 and the Opera House hosts a menacing and brilliant phantom that terrorizes the performers and manipulates the new opera managers, Monsiuers André and Firmin.
